In The Stirrer [9.2.09], Alan Clawley reveals that councillors on the Library’s Scrutiny Review Group, set up to examine Birmingham’s new Central Library hasn’t met since March 2008 - almost a year.
Subjects which should be addressed by the councillors on the Library of Birmingham Scrutiny Review Group include:
- postponement of construction of the new Library of Birmingham:
- the Rep’s compensation for the loss of fifteen months’ income and arrangements for staff layoffs;
- the huge fees of the consultants hired to develop the latest proposals, as well as the two abortive ones;
- the reasons for investigative drilling in the carpark before the architects have produced plans of the new library.
The people who should be pushing for answers to all these questions on our behalf, are the councillors on the Library of Birmingham Scrutiny Review Group. But the Group has not met since March 2008 and the minutes of that meeting have not yet been published because it has not met since to approve them.
